  1. Perun says:

A few comments and caveats post production as always:

    1) This is a really fast moving area, so since this has been recorded, the $30b ask I mention has already begun evolving in the Congress, with the amount increasing and a particularly large spike in the amount allotted to increase the Presidential Drawdown Authority – watch this space.

    2) I am conscious of the concessions on detail I made to keep this one below 30 minutes. The historical lend-lease scheme in particular is described in summary, and it was much more an aid scheme than a credit scheme in practice (it was in fact partly invented to avoid the bad experience of giving loans as the USA had done in the past) but I make those concessions for the sake of brevity. Likewise, foreign military financing usually comes with more conditions that just being given a credit card (what is bought, from whom etc.) but that's not central to the point being made, so I left that detail out. I mention this only because I know that any lawyer familiar with these frameworks is going to want to say "it's a bit more complicated than that" and they'd be right to do so – I just didn't want to turn this into a lecture on US legislation more than it already was.

    3) This was recorded before the Ukrainians came out with the joke video that showed lend-lease getting them Star Destroyers. This doesn't detract from the video, other than robbing me of an easy gag, so that's unfortunate.

    4) I want to stress again that when I say Lend-lease isn't important – I mean that in a context where the US is doing a lot through other mechanisms. I obviously can't predict how the administration would chose to use this authority in the event that the bipartisanship that is pushing these huge aid packages through Congress breaks down.

    5) As for the random green flashes that randomly appeared in the video after it was uploaded – but which didn't show up in the pre-upload version, IDK, I guess improving my audio meant it was time for another technical challenge. I'll look into it next time before setting a video to go live – apologies if it's distracting.

    Cheers all as always!

  2. The Grim Critic says:

I am a consummate Republican from Texas and while I am not crazy about Biden basically giving the Military-Industrial Complex a stimulus package by giving Ukraine a blank check on arms acquisitions, I am making an exception for the sake of wanting to see Ukraine survive as a nation and as a people. I don’t like Biden. I did not vote for Biden. But I can’t just stand by and agree with certain members of my Republican Party to just stand aside and let Russia strut across an innocent populace without consequences. For the first time probably ever, I am actually in agreement with Biden. Not because of him. But because I like seeing the Red Army getting slapped by their victims.

  3. Fibonazzi says:

"The act is obviously hugely symbolic"

Uhm, no? Ukraine Lend Lease Act was introduced by sen Cornyn on Jan 19, 2022 BEFORE the war as a deterrent so Biden could sign it ASAP and supply Ukraine with enough weapons to defend itself. However, Biden signed it only on May 9: 2 months into the war.

10 months in. Not a single weapon came to Ukraine under lend-lease act. Not a single one. Biden essentially thrown the Ukraine lend-lease act was into the bin.

  4. Sleepy7666 says:

What did you mean by the asset seizure? You had it on the slide but didn't expand on it?

I really appreciate your videos. I'm going through them all, started at the beginning and and it's incredible how quickly you scaled up the quality of your audio.

  5. Jolanta D says:

You do realise its a joke by Ukrainians taking Russian tanks from ppl brought to middl of nothing told to fight…
    Right?
    You do know that right?
Tht it jst cought on in press?

  6. Andy says:

I was seeing a lot of lend leases debt talk recently. About how the west was becoming a loan shark to gain power over ukraine. My 1st thought was I wonder If Perun has covered this yet. I would have loved to seen a full 50+ minute dive into the history of the program like how the uk just payed off the ww2 bill in 2020. But you cleared up all the confusion I had in under 30 and now I wouldn't get bad info from Russian bots. Thanks as always ♡

  7. Benji says:

Would you be able to give an update on lend lease 2.0 so far? I think there’s a lot of people spewing different info on what it is and what the aid has been so far.

  8. Roman Golubev says:

Thanks for the clear explanation of what the land lease act is and isn't. Could you please perhaps review the financial assistance of the later period as 5 months passed since this video release. Thank you again. Слава Україні! Смерть ворогам! 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 and all the other nations helping Ukraine and democracy

28:16 "Thanks very much for your time" – excuse me? You just gave me a very interesting video to watch for half an hour and you want to thank me? Absolutely unacceptable, thank YOU for the great content. And have a GREAT day.

  11. Ken Irawadi says:

The biggest mistake of western is to believe Russian will exhaust its resources before Ukraine gets no foreign support anymore. Russian military is built by real trade, while Ukraine built from donation. North Korea and Iran as well China get benefit from supplying military equipment etc. to Russia. In the opposite, Ukraine gives nothing back to the European and American tax payers. How long do you think these ppl will not start wake up and removing their pupet learders?
See in Italy, the right wing will lead the country. And this is just the beginning. Another Hitler in Europe? or even several Hitlers this time.
Additionally, you will have the rise of North Korea after getting Russian natural resources. As well as the rise of Iran….which leads strong reaction from Israel…. which caused strong reactions from arab countries… at the end you will have battle royal WW3.
Man…I hope the western ppl can stop their crazy government before it is too late.

  12. Rey says:

I know this is an older video, but I haven't been following closely, and I have a lot of catching up to do. I just want to leave an assurance that quality content typically finds its audience, no matter the length. The important part is consistency. Personally, I'm a big fan of Noah Caldwell-Gervais, for example, and will gladly watch a 7 hour video about Resident Evil, or some such. My partner, meanwhile, is a fan of Quinton Reviews, and will gladly watch an 8 hour video on the Nickelodeon show Victorious. Long form content is thriving on Youtube. So long as these videos are accessible to the public and don't get lost in the weeds, I'm sure they'll be successful.

  13. Rainier Esguerra says:

After the war ends, lots of Ukrainians will be teaching the Americans, British, French, Germans, Polish and other countries giving Ukraine weapons on how to properly use those weapons. Buyers of those weapons too.
Ukraine might even offer to pay off part of its obligations this way.

  14. United says:

🎯🛡 Bring the fight at the highest Volume Ukraine! 🚀 Putin is Pure evil murdering civilians to complete his dying dream of the 'NEW USSR." Russia is failing in high-speed attrition warfare due to the world response. "Evil men prosper when good men do nothing" 💛💙 Slava Ukraine! 🤘

  15. Dethfeast says:

I don't know if we need to give Ukraine a 10X increase in aid. The truth of warfare is there is a homefield advantage. History says all things being equal, a stalemate tends to make the invader decide to cut their losses and go home. From the US standpoint, it's pretty easy to point to Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc.

At some point, someone is going to decide that Putin's vision isn't a winning one for Russia, and the Putin reign will end. Let's face it, the best analogy to the Putin Kleptrocracy is the Mafia, and sooner or later even Paul Castellano or Albert Anastasia gets clipped when someone feels someone else would be better for business. This Ukraine adventure is clearly bad business for the Russian Kleptocrats.

  16. Alan Sandler says:

The long version is excellent. The short version is a really nice pleasant synopsis. It less straining to listen to. I really have to concentrate on the long version. Always interesting and informative.
Please tell us your educational background. Just curious!
You know so much, and analyse so well.
    Well Done!

  17. Arn says:

For the lengths of your presentations, I leave it to your intelligent discretion. Up to know these videos have been on point in content and on length based on subject mater. Bravo professor.

  18. Jamie London says:

I think the main point of this was to show commitment. I. e., the US military industry can feel certain that ramping up production won't result in storages full of unsellable weapons, because the US government will continue to send massive amounts into Ukraine, for as long as it takes. Which unfortunately is going to be a good while longer, presumably. :-/

  19. Just Sayin' says:

Shorter Run Time * * * Is a waste of your divine talent! <> You are creating forever now snapshots of moments in time as this unfolds. When you look back on this historic body of work you've created, you will know the accuracy and quality is unmatched. That = no regrets! <> I listen to you and hear all the things I would never have thought about. I try to figure out how to incorporate this type of pure thinking into my life! Thank you for sharing your gift with us! – Just Sayin'…

  20. chickenfishhybrid44 says:

I always find how people try to use the body count of the Soviets as some sort of "checkmate" to prove how they did the most as funny.. the Soviet Union was invaded, by Hitler who Stalin had signed a non aggression pact with ironically enough. The US was fighting halfway around the world. The Soviet Union losing more people is the only way that makes any sense at all.

  21. bits & pieces says:

So Lend Lease at WWII met the needs of that day. Lend Lease for Ukraine meets their needs of today. So what’s your problem. Secretary Austin said the goal is to bleed Russia. To weaken them militarily and economically so they are denied the means to rebuild. I’ve not heard Secretary Austin say the goal is for Ukraine to 100% evict Russia. Lastly I find you to be shockingly cynical of the massive infusion of American taxpayer dollars to aid Ukraine with weapons, munition’s etc in their war effort. 44b aid package passed by Congress plus all the billions prior to the 44b + Lend Lease. Etc.,etc., etc. That ain’t small change. How much did your country pony-up? Normally I like watching your channel. But this one is offensive.

  22. Mike MUC says:

An excellent source on propaganda is The First Casualty: The War Correspondent as Hero, Propagandist, and Myth-maker from the Crimea to the Gulf War II by Phillip Knightley

  23. Concordius UA says:

This is tremendously helpful to understand what Lend Lease actually does and what other mechanisms of financial and military aid exist. I'm Ukrainian in Ukraine right now. This explanation calms me down a bit and gives more hope. Thank you. Will be watching for those key indicators you mentioned.

  24. Warren Dew says:

I find it easier to watch a half hour video than an hour long video, but half an hour still qualifies as "long". I think to get videos treated as not long, they need to get down to the 10-15 minute range, and even then they are "medium", not "short". I think I could get what I want out of your videos in a 10-15 minute video, though squeezing it below that would be difficult; I normally prefer videos under 5 minutes, but that wouldn't be long enough for your content.

As for the propagandists, an explanation for some of the weirder propaganda tendencies would be interesting. For example, Russian trolls tend to mention the Cuban Missile Crisis a lot, and there's no obvious point. Similarly, they talk about the Monroe Doctrine, but it's hard to see what they are thinking is the Russian equivalent of the Americas.

  25. Alan Sandler says:

I really like the shorter format. I, at my age,74, have a hard time concentrating on long lectures. Surprisingly, I have also talked to young people who have a short attention span. Is it TWITTER, or what?
